A Letter from Chair Andrew Gray

On November 2nd 2010 over 22,000 Kansans made a definite statement. The statement was they were tired of the two party system controlling the destiny of their lives whether it is on a social or financial level. We are proud of each and every person who cast a vote for the Gray/Davis campaign. We are humbled, we are heartfelt and we are now even more energized than before. We will never be able to thank you enough.

Although we did not make the goal for major party status we did double the number ofvotes from the prior election cycle. In addition we had 12,000 more votes than the total registered Libertarians in Kansas. We see this as a continued interest in the fastest growing political party in Kansas. At the very minimum we have set a strong foundation on how future campaigns will be run. Stacey, myself and a few others will be meeting soon to determine what we did correctly, what we did incorrectly and what we should have done. The Executive Committee for the Libertarian Party of Kansas will be meeting this weekend to discuss how we will advance our growth for 2012. We are not going away.

We also want to reiterate that this is not something that I did…or Stacey…or anyone did alone. We all did this together and that has to be remembered time after time. We are a Party of individuals but we are, more importantly, a Party of individuals united in a purpose.

In speaking last night to the people gathered at the watch party I asked a very simple question – How many people here 6 months ago had not heard of the Libertarian Party or were not that well versed in our stances? About 75% of the people raised their hands. That’s the proof right there – Kansans who six months ago who really hadn’t heard of us were motivated enough to come from ALL parts of the state to be at the watch party. I’m pretty damn proud of that.

We will continue to work for our well defined goals and I want to ask something from you in return. I ask that you do not give up hope. I ask that you continue to tell others of our messages. Continue to apply Libertarian values to local issues and attack them. Make some noise and let the powers that be know the status quo is no longer acceptable. Need help? Call anyone in the Executive Committee since that is one of the reasons we are here. Got an idea? Call us….we are here to help. What I don’t want you to do is shrug your shoulders and walk away….they’re hoping, praying and betting for you to do that.

Prove them wrong.
