I have been a registered Libertarian for a couple of years now. Though I consider myself politically savvy, I am still not very familiar with how the LP conducts a lot of their operations.
Do the state conventions act like primaries? Are the presidential candidates chosen at the state conventions? What else happens at the state conventions?
Thank you!
The state convention does act as the primary for the Libertarian Party of Kansas. All LPKS candidates get an opportunity to address the convention, then the registered Libertarians present vote to determine the party candidate for each race.
The convention is also used to elect party officials every two years. New officers were elected just last year, so this convention there will be no officer elections.
The convention can also be used to address any other party business, such as platform and bylaws.
We will often have presentations regarding legislative issues and other Liberty related issues. It is expected that nearly all LP Presidential candidates will attend the Heartland Convention.
We hope you can make it this year.

I was elected as a Libertarian four years ago, (and as far as I can tell, I am the “highest ranking” Libertarian in the state of Kansas), and I was just wondering if anybody in this party cares that I am running again this year. Fred Campbell, Anderson County Attorney.
Well, I know I care. Congratulations and I’m glad you are running again. I’ll shot you an email in a few minutes and maybe we can put together an article for the website.

Any word on where this is going to be held? I’d like to attend, but need to plan. Also, will the presidential candidates attend as they did in 2008?
Details are now available about the 2012 Libertarian Party of Kansas Convention.
POTUS candidate RJ Harris is confirmed and will be attending.
The Heartland Libertarian Convention has the largest number of POTUS candidates that will be attending a state convention before Vegas.
